Established in 1978, the Friends have had a significant impact on preserving our natural resources through education programs in the Poynette area.
In July 2006 the Friends partnered with the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to jointly manage the MacKenzie
Environmental Education Center.

Kathleen Vogt with Don Jackson, Friends of MacKenzie Treasurer
The Friends of the MacKenzie Center hold a quilt raffle each year, raising funds to support the Center and its activities. Hand crafted by several members of the Friends group, with different colors and themes each year. The quilt raffle is traditionally held April thru October. Drawing held at the Hootenany; a MEEC community event celebrating the fall season and harvest each October. Contact us if you’d like a chance to win! 608-635-8105
This year's winner was Kathleen Vogt of
Waunakee. The drawing was held October 4, 2008 at the Hootenanny Community Event. The queen-size
quilt, "Tumbling Maple Leaves" was hand-crafted by several members of the Friends of
MacKenzie.
Volunteer Opportunities
What can you do to help? Become a volunteer!
It is fun, educational and hard work at times, but the rewards are great. By Becoming an active participant, you can make a difference in your community.
Where you come in:
- lead maple program tours
- develop educational materials
- help restore native prairies
- conduct education activities
- maintain trails and exhibits
- control invasive plants
- conduct outdoor skills workshops
- participate in special events
- sell gift shop items
- snow removal
- summer lawn care
- woodworking projects
- award scholarships
- assist in fundraising
and more!!!
Many of you have skills than can be put to use immediately. Teachers, carpenters, homemakers, Jack's or Jill's of all trades. Whatever your background, we
can offer you a variety of new experiences. New volunteers receive several hours of training.
Other training may be one on one or an on-the job learning experience. You will never be asked to do something without being comfortable and ready.
If you have never volunteered before the Friends offer a great opportunity to give it a try.
Learn a new skill or increase your personal knowledge; new friendships and wonderful memories guaranteed.
