Community Events

The MacKenzie Environmental Education Center hosts community events each year giving individuals an opportunity to enjoy our property and have lots of family fun!

SPRING


Maple Syrup Festival   (first Saturday each April)
Saturday, April 7th, 2012:

Begin your day with a pancake* breakfast held in our main lodge. (*fee)

Enjoy free guided tours of the sugarbush, demonstrations on tapping a maple tree and making syrup, interpretative talks on how Native American and Pioneers made maple sugar and syrup as well as current methods used in our own MacKenzie sugarbush. Participants will have the opportunity to watch home-made ice cream being churned with an antique engine; listen to live, old-time, country music; and take a horse-drawn wagon ride. In addition, the live wildlife exhibit, which includes animals native to Wisconsin and the museums, will be open.

Outdoor Skills Day and Prairie Interpretative Tour   (Annually in July)
Saturday, July 9th, 2011: 9am - 2pm: Main Lodge

Free and fun for all ages. Rotate thru a variety of hands on outdoor skills like fishing, archery and shooting sports. Enjoy an interpretative tour of our prairies or join a seminar on fishing or outdoor cooking.

Hootenanny - Community Event
Saturday October 1st, 2011, 6:30pm - 8:30pm; Main Lodge

Join us in our main lodge for a sing-along. Bring your voices and/or acoustic instruments for an evening of free family fun. Take a photo with Smokey Bear and help yourself to free refreshments.

2011 Fundraising Banquet
Saturday, October 8th, 2011; 5:00 pm; Main Lodge

First Annual MacKenzie Banquet; $40 per person; beef or salmon dinner. Raffles include firearms, archery, fishing, cash, and more. Banquet is limited to 120 individuals so call soon. All profits from the banquet stay in Poynette to support the Center!

Haunted Hay Ride - Community Event
Friday October 21, 2011; 6:30pm - 9:30pm AND Saturday, October 22, 2011; 6:30pm - 9:30pm

Join us for a fun and spooky hay ride around the MacKenzie Center property. Zombies, Witches, Graveyards, Ghosts and more! $5 for adults, $3 children age 3-8; includes a campfire with snacks too! Dress appropriately for the weather, costumes welcome.

MEEC is located just two miles east of Poynette, WI and 25 miles north of Madison, WI.
