Get Involved

The MacKenzie Environmental Education Center has a variety of programs and activities available for individual volunteers throughout the year.

Volunteer support is needed for snow removal, lawn care, custodial work, clerical and outdoor education teaching.

Volunteers (aka:actors) needed to be monsters and goblins along our haunted trail. Volunteers need to be old enough to participate with limited supervision and work independently or have an adult/chaperone with them. Hay Ride is held both Friday night and Saturday night October 26th and 27th, 2012. Please contact Ruth Ann Lee, lead educator at 608-635-8105 or ruthann@wiwf.org.


Volunteers needed to help staff and run our Maple Syrup Festival; a celebration of our month long maple syrup education program. Have fun while assisting in leading maple tours, horse drawn wagon rides, concessions, syrup sales, pancake breakfast, traffic control and more. We had approximately 1500 visitors for this event in 2009!

Volunteers needed for snow removal in various locations around the property such as the wildlife exhibit, around museums, lodge and dorms. Shovels provided.

Volunteers are needed to help lead school groups in our annual Maple Syrup Education Program. We served over 1,200 fourth grade students during the month of March. Training and lesson plan provided. Responsibilities include leading a group of 10-15 students and teaching tree identification, how to tap a tree, Native American and pioneer history and interpretation and more. Training occurs in February on several selected dates; program runs Tuesdays-Thursdays during March.

Employment Opportunities

Natural Resource Per-diem (as needed) Educator

The Center is looking for individuals to guide activities and programs for students of all ages. The ideal candidate(s) should be flexible and have an appreciation for outdoor and conservation education. You pick the dates you want to help out with when our schedule of teaching needs is presented. Programs typically occur M-F 8am-4pm.
